October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month Down Syndrome Albania Foundation (DSA) organizes: Buddy Walk® Albania “Come and have a friend by your side next to you”

For the second year in a row, the Down Syndrome Albania Foundation raises its voice and demands attention for a cause left in oblivion, the cause of individuals with Down syndrome.

Buddy Walk® Albania with the theme “Come to have a friend by your side next to you”, is an awareness walk in order to promote the rights and needs of individuals with Down syndrome to live a dignified and inclusive life in the country where we live.

The Buddy Walk® Initiative is a conception of the American National Down Syndrome Association (NDSS), and was first organized in 1995 to celebrate October, Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and to promote the acceptance and inclusion of individuals with Down Syndrome. Down. The number of Buddy Walk® has increased and from 17 walks organized in 1995, this October 300 walks are planned worldwide, one of them and Buddy Walk® Albania. In 2013, more than $ 21.3 million was raised in America through Buddy Walk®, which was transferred to local programs and services. Some of them were allocated as funds to the American National Down Syndrome Association, which uses them for its advocacy and awareness-raising initiatives for individuals with Down syndrome.

Down Syndrome Albania Foundation has received the license from NDSS to organize Buddy Walk® Albania.

At the end of the walk, in Rinia Park, DSA has organized a festive program:

– Concert with Albanian singers who contribute with their voice: Orgesa Zaimi, Kamela Islamaj, Çiljeta Xhilaga, Orinda Huta, Casey Tola and Vitmar Basha
– Symbolic fair with works of art and cooking of mothers of children with Dow syndrome

Fun for kids

Proceeds from the sales will go to donations to the DSA Development and Achievement Center, where 30 children with Down syndrome receive therapeutic care.
